Chiang Rai

This city has really captured my heart over the course of the last month. It has been an interesting ride, doing life in a new city/culture/country. The adjustment has been a smooth one so far, even as there are still practical things to figure out. (For example, figuring out where people go for food? I’ve been frequenting the same handful of places, though I’m working on branching out! Did figure out where to buy groceries which was helpful!)

Shortly after arriving here, I heard from a few friends that there was a room open with three volunteers from Destiny Rescue. The house is amazing & so much more than I expected in terms of space! I have my own room, bathroom, & three awesome roommates. Bonus: the large kitchen, balcony, & prayer room!

Around the same time, I purchased the motorbike of a volunteer leaving for India. So I got wheels & a home in the same day! Both were– & continue to be– answers to prayer. Not only did I find housing & transportation but so did the rest of the team as well! It was amazing to see God provide in the most extravagant ways for each of our needs! In addition, a case worker position opened within Destiny Rescue & I’ve been given the opportunity to volunteer with this incredible organization!

I’m still working on establishing daily rhythms & figuring out how to take care of practical needs like paying bills, where to take my scooter should it need fixing, & those sorts of things. Frankly, I often feel as though I have more time than I know what to do with but it has also been nice to have time to read, study the Word, & explore the city (Pictures here). As I reflect on these last four weeks, I can so clearly see the hand of our gracious Father, providing for each need, above & beyond expectation or hope. Pray for us as we continue to discern God’s will for us & for His church here. Pray also for unity, for our team & for the missionaries & churches that are here or will be here.

“Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, & yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? ”

Thanks to improved forest management, we have more trees in America today than we had 100 years ago.
